James Lloyd (1905-1974)

James Lloyd worked in a very distinctive pointillist style painstakingly building his compositions with a series of tiny dots. His works are incredibly detailed yet remain at the same time very simplistic. Painting was not a full time career for Lloyd until much later on in his life as he had eight children to feed. It was however his passion and it enabled him to represent the farming life he loved in Yorkshire.

From 1965, with the backing of Art Critic Sir Herbert Read he began to work full time and had a series of successful exhibitions with the Portal Gallery, London. As an artist he never titled or dated his work.

In July 2013 the Austin Desmond Gallery in London held the first one man show for the artist’s work since 1977.
