Cecil Collins (1908-1989)

A visionary painter, Collins was a notable individual in the history of Modern British Art. In 1936 he took part in the International Surrealist exhibition. From the mid 1940s onwards ‘The Fool’ became a recurrent theme in his work. Many one-man shows were held, including a major retrospective of his work at the Tate Gallery in 1989.
