Ruskin Spear, RA (1911-1990)
Born in West London, he studied first at Hammersmith School of Art before going on to the RCA where he studied under William Rothenstein, 1931-4. He was recognised as a painter of the people as well as a highly skilled portrait artist. He exhibited at the RA from 1932 and was a member of the London Group from 1942, becoming president from 1949-50.
