Matthew Lanyon (1951-2016)

Born in St Ives, the son of Peter Lanyon. Despite winning the art prize at school he was discouraged from studying art and instead went to Leicester University to study Geology. After he graduated he worked as a joiner before returning to painting. His first solo show was in 2007. His work celebrates the landscape and cultural legacy of Cornwall.
