James Hull (1921-1990)

Born in London, he studied Architectural Design before serving in the army during World War II. His first paintings were Surrealist before moving to a Constructionist style using pure colour and basic geometrical shapes.
 
He painted The Story of Coal mural for the Festival of Britain’s Dome of Discovery in 1951. He had a reputation as a pioneer Abstractionist and showed with Gimpel Fils as well as internationally.
