Romi Behrens (1939-2019)

Painter and printmaker, born in London, full name Rosemary Tunstall-Behrens. She had no formal training but was ‘discovered’ by Michael Canney in 1960. Her work was colourful, figurative but stylized and was shown at Newlyn Society of Artists of which she was a member; Brunswick Gallery, Judd Street Gallery; RA; Salthouse Gallery, St.Ives; and in 1993 she was included in Jeremy Le Grice’s Cornwall: A Painter’s Choice, at Cadogan Contemporary. Portraits of musicians were an important feature of her output. Lived at Rosudgeon, Penzance, Cornwall.
