Stacks Image 44
Following art school in Nottingham she travelled with her husband, the artist Harold Knight to Cornwall. It was there that she developed the confidence to paint in her own style. After her return to London she exhibited regularly, first becoming a Dame and later, in 1936, Laura Knight was the first woman to be elected a full member of the Royal Academy. Her work explored unusual subject matters, backstage ballet dancers, circus performers and gypsies.
